If you are the proud owner one, two or three Newfoundlands like myself,  you know the deep connection between owner and Newfie. All three of my Newfoundlands, Springhaven's Chasing Cars, CGC, WRDX, Delta Dog, Castanewf's Irresistible and Kilyka's It's All About Amity at Summerhill, have very different personalities and strengths. As a dedicated owner of Show Dogs and Working Dogs, this website offers information regarding Newfoundland Dog Events from Conformation (Show), Water Work and Draft Work (Carting) in the Southern California Region. If you own a Newfoundland, I strongly urge you to join a Regional Newfoundland Club in your area. I hope the following pages can provide information and resources for all your Newfie needs.

About the Breed

The Newfoundland is a sweet-dispositioned dog that acts neither dull nor ill-tempered. He is a devoted companion. A multipurpose dog, at home on land and in water, the Newfoundland is capable of draft work and possesses natural lifesaving abilities.

The Newfoundland is a large, heavily coated, well balanced dog that is deep-bodied, heavily boned, muscular, and strong. A good specimen of the breed has dignity and proud head carriage.

In other words - They shed tumble weeds, they drool (alot), scuba dive in their water dishes and forget about a quiet relaxing time in the hot tub alone.

Buyer Beware

As cute as these teddy bear puppies are, there are health concerns. If you ever consider purchasing a Newfie as a family member seek advice and education from your Regional Newfoundland Club. All clubs can be located through the NCA website. Breeders can make a website really appealing but do your research. Visit the breeder's kennel, ask to see a pedigree & verify health clearances. Request to see the puppies parents. Visit the offa.org website. If you sign a contract for an AKC puppy make sure the puppies are registered with the AKC or you just bought yourself a really expensive mutt. The best advice I was given was to attend a Regional Specialty for my next Newfie prospect. For you non- showy people, it's a fun filled day of nothing but Newfs. For the men, it's like going to the Los Angeles Auto Show. For the ladies, it's a fun filled day with alotta Newfies. It's a really great opportunity to see the best of the best and to speak with experienced breeders.
